Nailing it!

Hi BeautyBoosters!

Hope you’re having a good week so far? I wanted to talk about nails today as my own are starting to blossom (thanks Vitamin D, clean eating and not torturing them with gels/acrylic!) and so I’ve been having a scout around for some exciting new colours and artistic techniques to make them look even snazzier!

I’m loving Elegant Touch’s fashion inspired range of press on nails and nail wraps at the moment especially the Feather and Envy Wraps Bling and Tie Dye effect. The Wraps are £5 and nails £7.10 and are available online and at Boots and Superdrug stores in the UK.

What nails looks are you loving at the moment?

Giles for Label.m Competition!

imageHello BeautyBoosters! I hope you’ve had a great weekend? I’ve had a nice relaxing weekend away in Bath being pampered (post on that to come soon!)

If you follow my blog you’ll know what a huge fan of Label.m I am so after seeing their latest news I had to share it with you all as they have some AMAZING prizes up for grabs!

They have recently launched the #Gilesforlabelm competition where you could win  loads of goodies, including London Fashion Weekend tickets and a personalised label.m product selection. See below for details on how to enter.

Competition Time – How Do You Style Your Scarf?

We know how fashion-forward our fans are so we want to give you the chance to show everyone – that’s right, with your own scarves! Simply send us a pic on Twitter or Instagram showing how you style your scarf, making sure to tag @labelmUK and use the hashtag #Gilesforlabelm!

We have some fab prizes up for grabs for our 3 favourite submissions, including: tickets to September’s London Fashion Weekend, the exclusive Giles for label.m scarf and lots of label.m products. So get creative and we’ll announce the winner in June!

If you can’t wait to get your hands on the scarf designed by Giles Deacon, you can receive one for free when you buy any two or more label.m products from a label.m concept salon (http://labelm.com/uk/stockists).

Get Smooth For Summer

Hello BeautyBoosters!

I hope you had a great weekend and have started the week off by getting out in the sunshine? Last year I had some laser hair removal (thanks to a discount deal gift from my sis) and it got me thinking about summer time when you want to show off more skin and generally be a summer smooth-legged goddess! I was really impressed with the results of my treatments but after a few months the hair on my legs started to come back (the too-good-to-be-true discount deal went awry unfortunately so I couldn’t complete all my treatments!)

So I’ve been on the lookout for at-home products that would save me the hassle of having to rely on finding a good salon plus the extra time in my schedule to fit in having the treatment and reap the benefits long term. Step forward The Tria Hair Removal Laser 4X. This nifty, new generation at-home treatment has just become available to buy on Tria Beauty’s website and it caught my eye so I think as a rather significant birthday is coming up (hint hint) I might have it in my possession before too long. It retails for £375 which *gulp* sounds a lot but when you factor in monthly waxing sessions and all the shave gels/razors etc you probably buy over the course of a year it seems quite reasonable! If you want to find out more about it too check out the website here

Hair Heroes!

Hello BeautyBoosters! I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend?

I’ve been trying some new products to improve my hair so its getting plenty of benefits inside and out!

First up, I have been trialling Nourkin Woman Hair Nutrition Programme for a month. This supplement nourishes hair and supports normal hair growth. It contains Marilex* (extract protein compound of marine origin), acerola cherry extract, siica, horsetail extract and D-biotin. I took 2 tablets a day as recommended and feel there has been some improvement in the growth rate and condition than before so it gets a thumbs up from me! I’m still nurturing my locks for my Rapunzel summer hair quest so any improvement is welcome. This is pretty pricey but it received a Gold Medal from the World Trichology Society and if your hair is crying out for some intensive help then it can be worthwhile to invest in products that will get you results.

A more recent addition to my #HairHeroes kit is Moroccanoil Light Oil Treatment. If you’ve followed BeautyBoost from the beginning you’ll know I’ve tried another brand called Proclere Argan Oil Hair Treatment which is sold in Superdrug. Whilst I was a big fan of it I had to stop using it after a while as my fine hair soon started to look a bit greasy by the end of the day. After my hairdresser used the Moroccanoil Light Oil Treatment on my tresses recently I was really impressed with how it gave the shine and softness I craved with none of the heaviness I usually associate with hair oil. I’ve continued to use it for a month since and as you only need a small amount (two pumps) - a little goes a long way and I’m really happy with the improvement. I had been hammering my hair with heated styling so I’m pleased to report my ends aren’t looking so damaged, its incredibly soft and so much shinier!

image

I’m also LOVING Label.m’s Brunette Resurrection Dust and Heat Protection Spray. My hair is quite fine and as I’m growing out my layers in an attempt to make it look a bit fuller I’m always on the lookout for styling products that can give it more oomph! Label.m Brunette Resurrection Dust hits the spot perfectly for this. Dust a small amount into the roots and massage it in with your fingertips to add volume. At first I wanted more product to come out as only a tiny amount is dispensed but here lies the key: less is more! You really do only need a small amount for it to make a big difference. Another great cost-per-use product!

Another BeautyBoost high five goes to the Label.m Heat Protection Spray. One of my ‘pet peeves’ about heat protection sprays is that they can sometimes leave hair feeling a bit tacky and heavy after use but this  gave me none of those problems, instead providing a light mist that improved drying time and protected my locks despite my vigorous blow drying efforts!

So there you have it, my little arsenal of current #HairHeroes! Have you tried any of these? What do you think? As always if you have a burning beauty or hair question please ask away and I’ll do my best to help!

BEAUTYBOOST PROFILE: ALICEY NUTRITION

Hello BeautyBoosters! Now you all know that I am happily obsessed with all things makeup and beautifying but I am equally intrigued about incorporating healthy lifestyle choices into my every day routine to work on improving myself from the inside too! I’ve been following the wonderful Alicey Nutrition for a while now so I thought it was high time I shared her awesomeness with you all! Read on to find out about how you can boost your beauty from the inside with Alicey’s help!

Tell us a little bit about yourself Alicey…

A life-long friendship with health, fitness and food is really where it all began. Ever since I can remember I have been poking around in mum’s cooking pots and chomping on avocados in the school-yard.

Even as a kid I was often shocked by the way other families ate and lived. For me, I need optimum health, it is within me, a kind of yearning for an optimal lifestyle, vital and bubbling with energy and goodness.

I grew up in country Victoria, Australia. I am the offspring of a Dutch chef mother and artist Aussie father. My first degree was a Bachelor Fashion Design, and I then went on to study Nutrition online. I am currently living in East London and undertaking Certificate II & IV in Fitness and Personal Training. I’m obsessed, in the best kind of way…

What sparked your interest in nutrition as a career choice?

A few years ago my mother was struck down with breast cancer. I was living in The Netherlands at the time and quickly moved back to Australia to be with her through her treatment. It was during this time I realised exactly how much our lifestyle can affect our lives in the long run. I come from a very health conscious family, but for me it is now obvious how much we can play a part in disease prevention and feel amazing along the way, simply by making informed decisions about the way we live, that’s pretty empowering.

Describe a day in the life of Alicey…

I’m a self confessed obsessive health foodie. I love my routine of Alicey’s Oats breakfast

ALICEY NUTRITION OATS BREAKFAST (Alicey’s soaked oats with berries & egg whites…yep! Egg whites with cinnamon thrown on top.)

and my high protein rainbow salady lunches

ALICEY NUTRITION RAINBOW SALAD (Scissor Chopped Rainbow Salad: spinach, dill, mint, avocado, tomato, purple cabbage, radish, beetroot, tuna & apple cider vinegar/olive oil.)

but I’m always mixing it up and looking for new flavour sensations-it’s the essence to life!

Good nutrition should be fun and exciting-it’s all about variety and keeping it fresh and interesting.

My days are always different, being self employed means I can schedule awesome new things into each day: Clients, fitness and training with friends, trying new cafes, visiting food & health stores and cooking up for friends with new ingredients. I spend a lot of time behind my computer doing research so I make sure I break it up with some physical activity every few hours-even just cleaning the house, going for a run etc. Otherwise I enter zombie mode and that ain’t pretty! Gotta keep the blood pumping!

4) Which top foods would you recommend for a ‘BeautyBoost’?

Water and lots of it!
GOOD fats-Avocado, nuts like almonds and walnuts, as a snack or thrown into your meals.
GREEN things- kale, spinach, cress, broccoli & asparagus-EVERY single day!
CLEAN Protein- omega3 packed salmon, sardines & mackerel plus organic grass fed meats- which are high in vitamin D-if the animal has had a good life it will be a healthier and more nutrient dense food source for us!
AND EXERCISE-Sweat it out, we are human and made to move! A balanced diet along with an adequate amount of physical exercise including some awesome hard-core strength training is going to do more for your skin, body and mind than any diet-pill or face cream on the market.
Consistency- You won’t see changes immediately but you will see them. Be patient, be kind to yourself and stick with it!

5) What foods would you include to make your ultimate ‘BeautyBoost’ smoothie or juice?

I much prefer to chew my foods-it’s proven drinking calories is never as satisfying to the brain, we need to chew to turn off hunger signals. However, with saying that I often juice up a load of VEG—Try a mix of celery, beetroot, fennel, ginger, lemon, lime & ginger for a zingy afternoon detoxifying pick-me-up!

6) If people would like to get in touch and get a bespoke nutrition plan from you what’s the best way to contact you/find out more?

Please contact me via my Facebook page www.facebook.com/aliceynutrition I am always happy to answer questions or tailor make a detox plan for you. I do supermarket and market outings to introduce clients to new and exciting ingredients and super-foods plus to explain what to be cautious of in the jungle of food marketing. My clients learn a lot when we have hands-on activities like shopping or cooking at home. You’ve really got to be infected with the healthy energy and a burning desire for health and vitality! I frikking love my job. Xx
